The northern parts of Ghana (and Côte d’Ivoire and Nigeria) are facing problems induced by climate change, drought and the rough rain. In these areas there is a large need for food, for both people and livestock, but the location, climate variability, human activity in close proximity to waterbodies and a lack of technology and knowhow create a challenging environment for sustainable agriculture in West-Africa. Therefore, irrigation is one of the big topics in West Africa including the Sahel.
Albert Knol promoted the NL-FSA during the Blue Green Irrigation mission in Ghana (6-11 Oct 2019). The mission was organized by NABC (Netherlands / African Business Council) and Dutch Embassy. Besides Albert (NL-FSA and Royal Eijkelkamp) there were representatives of the following FSA partners: Witteveen & Bos, Grundfos, Valmont and VanderSat. The results of the mission was very promising.
In the meantime we have already had follow up meetings with some managers of the proposed and visited agricultural projects. Also we have had follow up discussions with some of the companies that joined this mission and most probably they can play a further role within the NL-FSA in the future.
